Lynne ArrialePianist/composer Lynne Arriale began studying music at age four, eventually earning a master's degree in piano performance before turning to jazz.
Her trio now performs internationally and celebrates its tenth anniversary with Come Together, its ninth CD release. Come Together is already besting the wide critical acclaim of their previous CD, Arise, which hit #17 on Billboard, #1 on UPI's Best Jazz CDs '03, and along with its predecessor, Inspiration, reached #1 on national jazz radio, #1 in New Yorker Magazine's Best CDs '03 and won that year's German Record Critics Award. Appearances on national media include PBS-TV's "Profile of a Performing Artist," CNN/ FN' Biz, NPR's Piano Jazz with Marion McPartland, Weekend Edition, Jazz Set and NPR's Jazz Piano Christmas - Live from The Kennedy Center in '03 and '04. Arriale also won the 1993 Great American Jazz Competition and toured Japan with "100 Golden Fingers", a group including piano legends Hank Jones, Tommy Flanagan, Kenny Barron, Harold Mabern, Junior Mance, Monty Alexander, Roger Kellaway, Ray Bryant and Cedar Walton.
This past year, the Lynne Arriale Trio played numerous concerts and festivals on tours throughout the U.S. and Canada, Germany, France, Belgium, Switzerland, Norway, Sweden, The Czech Republic, Poland, Italy, England, Ireland and Scotland. The trio's previous CDs include, Live at Montreux (recorded live at Switzerland's 1999 Montreux Jazz Festival); Melody, A Long Road Home, With Words Unspoken, When You Listen, and The Eyes Have It.
Arriale has conducted educational clinics internationally, been a faculty member of the Jamey Aebersold Summer Jazz Workshops, has adjudicated the Montreux Jazz Piano Competition and currently serves on the International Association of Jazz Educators (IAJE) Jazz Piano Resource Team and the IAJE Sisters in Jazz Advisory Council. She and her trio also served as clinicians and performers at the Thelonious Monk Institute in Aspen, Colorado.
Jay AndersonBassist/composer Jay Anderson has won numerous awards for both jazz and classical performance. He began playing acoustic bass at the age of 12 and is a graduate of California State University at Long Beach. Since moving to New York City in 1982, Jay continues to perform and record with some of the most important names in jazz, having been a regular member in the bands of Red Rodney & Ira Sullivan, Michael Brecker, Toots Thielemans, Michael Franks, Eliane Elias, Bennie Wallace, Steve Khan, Carmen McRae and, since 1992, the great Joe Sample. Anderson has been featured on over 150 recordings with such legends as Paul Bley, Randy Brecker, Bob Berg, Bob Mintzer, Mike Stern, Donald Byrd, Terumasa Hino, Lee Konitz, Warren Bernhardt and many others. He has also performed with the big bands of Woody Herman, Kenny Wheeler, Maria Schneider, Mel Lewis, Toshiko Akiyoshi & Lew Tabackin, and the WDR Koln, Germany. Jay is also an NEA grant recipient for composition and two Meet the Composer grants. He has been featured on ten Grammy nominated recordings and has also recorded two albums of his own for the DMP label, Next Exit and Local Color. He conducts clinics around the world and is a faculty member at the Manhattan School of Music and SUNY New Paltz, NY.
Steve DavisDrummer Steve Davis has performed with David Liebman, Bill Evans, Richie Beirach, John Pattitucci, Pat LaBarbara, Walt Weiskopf and Lynne Arriale. He has over seventy recordings to his credit, including three under his own name, featuring such collaborators as John Hart, Drew Gress and Tim Reis. A ten year founding member of the Lynne Arriale Trio, he has recorded all nine CD's with the group. Other recording credits include work with Walt Weiskopf, Conrad Herwig, Richie Bierach, Bill Evans, Kenny Werner, Tim Hagans, John Pattitucci, Manfredo Fest and Andy Laverne. Steve has toured extensively in Europe, Asia and North America. In addition to performing, Davis has been on the faculty of Jamey Aebersold Jazz Clinics since 1982, was an Indiana University Artist in Residence, and served on the faculty of the Berlin Conservatory of Music as Professor of Jazz Studies. He has authored six educational drum books and conducts master classes and clinics throughout the world. Steve is currently on the faculty of the University of South Florida in Tampa.

Federico Garcia Lorca, autoria

"... So Schubert, in the singularity of his personal imaginary space, would say: community. Listening to these two beings in music", Maria João Pires and Ricardo Castro, we would say empathy: for this seems to us to be at the heart of the process which binds together two musicians intent on summoning music from one and the same instrument. Empathy, the emergence of the quest for unity, is deployed in the specific ability to set about listening to the other to the point of identification, to project oneself onto the other to the point of being able to sense the state of his or her feelings, in this case musicality, to the extent of being able to make them one's own - and this in a mutuality which keeps us in the realm of the senses, of the inexpressible which comes well before thought. ..."

Paráfrase de concerto de Rigoletto de Giuseppe Verdi
Debussy rejected the overblown forms and the harmonic style of the post-Wagnerians such as Gustav Mahler and Richard Strauss. He preferred understated effects similar to those achieved by the French Impressionist painters and poets. Pelléas et Mélisande, the most significant Impressionist opera, has been called a masterpiece of understatement. He wanted his music to sound improvisatory, as though it had not been written down. Many of his compositions are miniatures, such as the 24 Piano Preludes, which often have fanciful titles such as What the West Wind Saw, Dead Leaves, and Sounds and Scents Revolve in the Evening Air. But there are marked stylistic differences between the earlier Preludes and the later works from the second book, such as Ondine. The discontinuity of Debussy's late works has been acknowledged and variously described by many writers: Herbert Eimert describes it as endless variation; Robert Sherlaw Johnson compares this aspect to the collage technique of Messiaen; Robert Orledge describes it as mosaic construction; Roy Howat refers to it as a definable system of block construction; and Boulez describes it as musical pointillism. Regardless of the applicable descriptions one might favor, it is evident that the forms of the later Preludes are much more loosely conceived and open, a deliberate feature of design by the composer.
Debussy's piano music is the most important creation by a French composer since that of Chopin. He created a subtle pianistic style that made new demands on performing technique, and the shifting, blurred sonorities of the style were achieved by a new use of the damper pedal. His best-known composition in any medium is most likely the famous Claire de Lune (Moonlight) from Suite Bergamasque (1890-1905) for solo piano.
That Liszt's works were not seriously considered was in part due to his catering to the public with show pieces. These dazzling crowd pleasers also helped to make Liszt popular and famous worldwide, yet he was breaking ground on several fronts. First; by devising the piano recital, which was made possible by his unrivalled ability to orchestrate on the piano. Liszt's rich, lush blanket of sound was strikingly new and compelling, second; playing demanding virtuoso pieces, in vogue at the time, that only he could perform, thus becoming the first musical superstar, third; a neglected point- he is rarely given credit for exposing the works of the old masters to audiences that otherwise could never have heard these works, since radios or stereoes didn't exist. He did this both in original form, and by operatic transcriptions and paraphrases, the latter being significantly enhanced with his own original scoring, and fourth; by playing to broader mixed audiences, not just for Kings, Queens and the Aristocracy. So, Liszt brought music to the general public and established modern musical practices. That some crowds craved the pure excitement generated by some of the more shallow, and or, bombastic pieces deeply offended the intellects.

Musique Heinrich Ignaz Biber
